As the job board industry blossoms and matures from a few big generalist boards to a niche job board for almost every demographic and industry, it's only natural that employees of the large boards are spreading their wings and running their own boards:
- Jobvite.com appointed Dan Finnigan,
former head of HotJobs,
as CEO in July of 2008. - RetirementJobs.com was founded in 2005 by Tim Driver former Senior Vice President of Consumer Products at Salary.com. Kevin Strange, Vice President of Operations, is the former Vice President and co-founder of Net-Temps. Jocelyn Talbot, Vice President of Sales, held the position of Sr. Vice President of Sales at Monster.com for ten years.
- H3.com was co-founded in 2005 by Hans Gieskes who served as president of Monster.com
- TheLadders.com was founded in 2004 by Marc Cenedella a former HotJobs.com executive. He followed a cardinal rule of new start-ups and looked for an underserved marketing sector that makes more money. TheLadders.com focuses exclusively on job seekers who make $100k or more.
- JobFox.com was founded by Robert McGovern the former Chairman and CEO of CareerBuilder. After 7 years on the job he sold his creation to the Tribune and Knight Ridder compay in 2002 and started Mkt10 which morphed into JobFox.com.
Others (not quite big shots...yet) who come from niche job boards have launched vertical job search engines or other niche boards:
- GetTheJob.com was started in 2006 by Chris Amato of BioSpace and HireHealth and is dedicated to news and career opportunities in the pharmaceutical field.
- Care.com was launched in 2006 by Sheila Lirio Marcelo the previously worked for TheLadders.com and has board members that also sit on the Jobster.com and TheLadders.com boards.
- Indeed.com was launched in 2004 by Paul Forster and Rony Kahan, who previously founded and managed Jobsinthemoney.com
And then there are the second act or serial job board entrepreneurs:
- JobCentral.com was launched in 2001 by Bill Warren, OCC.com founder and former Monster.com President.
- RecruitingNevada.com was launched by Doug Geinzer (more about him soon).
And then there are still others that don't fit any other category:
- Realmatch.com was co-founded by Alan Schoenberg, founder of Management Recruiters International (MRI)
Which of these you think is going to hit it out of the park? Indeed.com is a forgone conclusion and I suspect most of these will succeed. So if I have to place a bet my money is on retirementjobs.com -- because I love the generic exact match domain and because their team is packed with deep job board industry experience.
Have I left out any big shots?
