Diversity Jobs Traffic & Update

in job boards

We brought DiversityJobs.com online in May of 2006 as a workplace diversity blog.  It was purely a blog until September of 2006 when we launched jobs and moved the workplace blog over to the right-hand column.  Launching the blog first helped us establish our search engine indexing.  Currently we're ranking #1 for 'diversity jobs' at Google and MSN and #2 at Yahoo.

You may notice that we chose to use the business model for our Diversity board that our friend Don Firth pioneered over at TopUSAJobs.com (hat tip).

Our visitor count didn't start to rise rapidly until we added jobs to the website, but it has grown at a good clip since as you can see in the graphs below produced by Google Analytics.   We're doing a little bit of CPC advertising but are holding back for the most part as we're still in Beta mode.  We'll probably stay in Beta until July of this year.  We also will likely refrain from doing any press releases until then as well.

We invested $127,703  in this project in 2006, which is predominantly programming and the domain cost.  This year we'll likely invest a little more than that.  We currently employ two programmers on the project, one here and one in Brazil, but we'll be adding two more in Brazil shortly.

The engine we're using is an open-source project called Drupal which is very suitable for running large community-driven websites.  It also powers this blog.  You can read more about the project at Drupal.org. And to get an idea of the vitality of this project, you can also view other sites powered by Drupal in the Drupal Showcase. Two well known examples are TheOnion.com and Recruiting.com.

Now, if you're reading this more or less in a timely manner, you have an insider's view of the birthing process of a job board destined to be a well-known employment brand!  It has been nearly ten years since we launched our first Hispanic job board with $7,000.  Fortunately, we've learned a few things since then and have more resources at our disposal.

Stay tuned! Smile
