Why every job board should blog

job board blogsYesterday, I talked about why I blog so today let's talk about why you should blog if you run a job board.

Competition is heating up geometrically. Transparency is being forced on us all as secrets become evermore difficult to keep. The winners will be boards that build credibility and authenticityYou can have high credibility without a blog but if you want authenticity, start blogging.

job board bloggerBlogging may attract special people who are passionate about your product like our Sandra Bavasso. She worked for us for five years and had a big impact on the company starting our job fair business and launching many new features like job agents. She found us after I sat on a conference panel way back when.  I don't travel to conferences anymore but think the blog can serve a similar PR function.  And by the way, when Sandra decided to move on she gave us three months of her time to ease gently out of her position to minimize the disruption for us -- now that is beyond classy!

Blogging gives prospective hires a window into your company's culture.  It can help you hire people that fit in more reliably. And, it can help you screen out candidates that are faking interest in your company.  If they haven't found your blog by the time they interview, that's not a good sign!

Blogging will also allow us to promote your job board on JobBoardBlogs.com and allow you to display our member graphic if you like.

Trisha (not verified) - I am a fraud

About.com sent out their top 10 job boards list today here. If I am looking for a job, should I register on all of these? I know that some dont really have their own jobs, they just list others...so which ones are their own board?

** es ** Weak comment spam promoting garbage content -- you made my point for me. This is precisely why authenticity and credibility are so critical today, it separates you from the imposters.  Crap content is everywhere but it's also what allows one to stand out when we produce quality.

I agree with you that it is important for job boards to start blogging. I recently started EmploymentMetrix.com as a way to share some of Beyond.com’s recruitment data, and to provide a forum for discussion of new ideas and best practices related to the recruitment industry.

** es ** Rich, congratulations on Beyond.com, you have built quite a company! I just subscribed to your blog and look forward to reading you.  We will add you to jobboardblogs.com asap.   By the way, I am originally from Chadds Ford Pennsylvania, not too far from Philly.

Eric...your career advice blogs is a great idea. I hope you are right about blogging. For me, it is a creative release, I must admit, at least it started that way. Now, it is paying dividends in unusual ways. So, I am glad I am doing it. But those who think they are going to get a big impact after only a few weeks are delusional. my two cents anyway.

** es ** couldn't agree with you more GL, it's a long slow haul... but an enjoyable one.  I appreciate your comment!

Eric, You are absolutely dead on, I started a blog on mine and it has lead me to some very powerful people within the equipment industry. I sent you a Linkedin invite, give me a shout when you have a chance. Thanks. Rob Lewis
