internet recruiting

A true friend is hard to find

a true friendI want to get into video but I'm not ready to appear in person yet. Fortunately, my cats are. So move over James Cameron, here's my Avatar. I have to apologize in advance for the lack of violence and mating. Still, I expect millions of views.

This does have something to do with recruiting too. I enjoy the friendships I've made over the years in this industry. I've supported friends and been supported. A couple, I supported knowing it might hurt me a little from a competitive standpoint if they succeeded. They did succeed and their companies are heavyweights today. Being part of that feels good even when my role is infinitesimally small.

InternetRecruiting.us becomes OnlineRecruitingNews.com

online recruiting newsIn the past few days I've been remaking InternetRecruiting.us with a new purpose and a new domain at OnlineRecruitingNews.com.

This new site will be a cooperative of 25 dues paying job boards who want to increase their visibility. Whether or not you become one of our managing members, you will still be welcome to maintain your profile and post news there.

It will not be exclusive by category, so it's possible we will have two competing websites as members. I would prefer not to have competitors but this will be run more or less first-come, first-served.

More job searches performed on Indeed.com than any other jobs site

vertical job search From the Indeed.com blog:

In October, we launched in three more countries: France, Germany and Spain. Indeed’s comprehensive search engine for jobs includes millions of jobs from job boards and company career sites in each of these countries.

Since Indeed.com’s launch four years ago in November 2004, we have grown to include jobs from more than ten thousand websites in seven countries and four languages. More job searches are now performed on Indeed.com than on any other website (comScore Media Metrix, Oct 2008).

Job board newscast will be a hit

It isn't often in the Internet recruiting and job board news pond that I see something really special. But today, I just listened to something brilliant. Chris Russell founder of JobBoarders.com published a podcast titled Job-search Roundup...  honestly, I expected to listen to a minute of it just to see what he was up to.

Top recruiting blogs

top recruiting blogsWe just launched TopRecruitingBlogs.com which aggregates the top established recruiting blogs making it easy for you to see what's happening in recruitment at a glance. If you are a recruiting blogger, it's also a nice tool for understanding blogging techniques and practices.

Job board?

clueless A reasonably sophisticated friend (working on his Ph.D.) admitted to me recently that he has never heard of Monster or CareerBuilder.com and that got me thinking about the word 'job board' -- how many people actually know it?

I've been working in the job board industry for 11 years and come to realize 'job board' is not in the dictionary nor in Wikipedia. So what would the Wikipedia page for 'job board' look like? Maybe something like this:

A job board is a website that publishes job ads and is dedicated to matching employers with job seekers.

CareerAdviceBlogs.com launched

career advice blogs We just launched a website that aggregates the top career advice blogs - the site is only a few days old so you can expect to see some nice improvements happening in a couple of weeks.

Since this website builds on our experience with InternetRecruitingNews.com it's not really as crappy as you might expect for a few days work. Our Croatian designer disappeared weeks ago, so I had to do the logo myself and that's probably the weakest link!

Suggestions for improvements?

Internet recruiting news

Internet recruiting We launched a new website today that aggregates Internet recruiting news (and opinions of course) so please have a look at InternetRecruitingNews.com. I wish there were more relevant feeds available, but there aren't many bloggers or publishers who stay focused enough. Originally, I included an Onrec.com feed even though I was uncomfortable about the number of posts that are off-topic. And then I saw this in my feed:

Resume flow builds in recession

Some interesting results highlighting the increase in jobseeker activity we always see in a recession.

CHICAGO, April 1, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- Monster.com recruitment ads drew 12.75 times more job seekers per advertisement in Q4 2007 than in Q1 2007 according to a study by New Office, an independent recruiting and staffing firm in Chicago.
